The NGI Center is seeking qualified candidates to become the Executive Director (ED) of the NGI. The ED works closely with the Director of the Center to identify the future direction for Center growth and services and creates action and business plans to meet established goals. The ED will also work with other faculty members of the NGI to administer, coordinate, and facilitate collaborative research in neurodegeneration. Duties include managing center budget, coordinating and managing internal grant program activities, managing and coordinating the seminars of the center.
Position Summary
The ED plans, manages and directs daily, strategic and long-term center activities. The ED works with the Director of the Center to identify the future direction for Center growth and services and creates action and business plans to meet established goals. The ED will lead a strategic planning process to define the strategic direction of the center, identify the administrative structural changes necessary to achieve this strategic direction, and develop strategies for achieving center strategic goals in a cost neutral manner.
The successful candidate will become a faculty member of the Psychiatry Department on the Research faculty track; title and salary will be commensurate with experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Directs center managerial activities
- Reports to the Director and manages a team of individuals (Center Administrative Coordinator) to keep the Center running
- Oversee all aspects of the daily management and operation of the NGI and its members and serve as the NGI’s lead representative to internal and external parties
- With the assistance of the center Administrative, answers specific e-mails, communicates center activities via e-mail, maintains and improves website, performs media tweets on center activities
- Plans and coordinates NGI center daily and yearly activities (Working Group meetings, Journal Clubs, employee morale activities, …)
- With the assistance of the center Administrative, facilitates preparation of annual budget, to present a complete budget package to the School of Medicine
- Develop, implement, and manage the NGI operational budget in consultation with the Director
- Is responsive to the needs of faculty, staff and students and ensures quality service is provided to all
- Evaluates and communicates all new and revised University policies and procedures to the appropriate administrative staff, ensuring compliance while maintaining operating efficiency and effectiveness
- Defining appropriate staffing, faculty and organizational structures needed to carry out center activities
- Responsible for the NGI manual book for faculties and personnel
- Coordinates quarterly faculty meetings and circulates minutes and needs for those meetings
Directs Center scientific and outreach activities
- Organizes activities to disseminate the research interests of the Center (NGI Seminar, invited speakers)
- Coordinates agendas of invited speakers and Faculty with assistance of Center Administrative Assistant
- Coordinates promotion and evaluation of Pilot Grants
- Coordinates and promotes training workshops for NGI personnel and affiliated labs
- Develop, refine, and publicize programming consistent with the NGI mission based on resource availability and acquisition.
- Assist in center growth (faculty recruitment, center needs)
- Promote and announce conferences, courses and grants of interest faculty and students
Directs planning efforts and shapes decision-making
- Presents information regarding national trends in similar center services and business models
- design a program strategic plan aligned with similar centers
- performs feasibility studies, cost and revenue analyses, and business projections of center growth, revenues, patient service levels, etc.
- Includes a multi-year financial forecast based on center objectives
- Ensures long-term, fundamental financial stability and growth of the center
- Provides a strong, sound infrastructure to support the faculty and mission of the Center
- create and implement fundraising activities that benefit the Center, including grant proposal preparation, donor events, and project and capital fund campaigns
Minimum qualifications
Terminal degrees may be PhD, MD, DO or MD-PhD with a health-related focus. Preferred areas of professional expertise include neuroscience, neurodegeneration, genomics and related omics, and bioinformatics.

• Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, financial and business forecasting, financial management, and budgeting.

• Proven ability to define issues, strategically plan options, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes in a timely fashion in a complex environment
• Thorough knowledge of university financial system is strongly desired

Position Description
The NeuroGenomics and Informatics (NGI) Center at Washington University School of Medicine, seeks to appoint two faculty positions with interdisciplinary research interests and approaches that focus on improving our understanding of Alzheimer Disease and related dementias.
Anticipated start date is summer-fall 2023.
The NGI is looking for outstanding candidates with interest in generating and/or leveraging multi-omic data to understand the biology of neurodegeneration vs healthy aging. Competitive faculty should have experience in neurobiology, human genomics, data integration and/or computational biology; selected faculty should address these questions using state of the art techniques in cellular, molecular biology and functional genomics (iPSC, organoids, CRISPR), multi-omic data (spatial transcriptomics, single cell omics, long read sequencing) and statistical learning (supervised vs unsupervised ) using excellent computer language, cloud computing resources and containerization.
Both junior-level and established scientists are encouraged to apply. The NGI is associated with several highly ranked graduate programs. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences (DBBS), which holds up to thirteen academic programs, including: Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Computational and Systems Biology, Molecular Genetics and Genomics and Neuroscience.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an extramurally-funded research program, mentor Master’s and PhD students and foster development of an equitable and diverse environment. They will develop an independent research program and be a part of a translational team of researchers at the NGI focused on understanding the biology of neurodegeneration, developing prediction models and identifying druggable targets.
The new faculty will join a large, multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment of faculties with expertise in genomics, multi-omics, machine learning, and cell-models and iPSC in neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will also become integrated into the university’s neuroscience and genetics communities (Knight-ADRC and Hope Center) that feature highly successful members, a collaborative atmosphere, and broad research interests. They will also have access to state of the art facilities at the McDonnell Genome Institute (MGI) and competitive Research Infrastructure Services (RIS) .
